The market for ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) is undergoing considerable structural changes. The current shortage of MLCCs, which started in 2016, continues to present challenges for the supply chain, with the MLCC producers working to close the gap between supply and demand. Several of the world's largest MLCC producers have decided to publish end-of-life notices for large models of their MLCC products, leading to short-term disruptions and long-term supply issues.
Manufacturer Kemet, for example, is pursuing a different strategy. Kemet will continue to invest in technology and capacity for larger MLCCs, not only in the 0603-2220 designs, but also larger. It is beyond doubt that the demand for robust products with higher voltage and current capabilities will continue to increase. This has always been a strong focus for Kemet, and investments will therefore continue in this direction. This is good news for Kemet's customer base, as the producer does not plan any discontinuations and customers are therefore not forced to downsize.
