Cost-effective SUNON Eco EC fans

Ideal solutions for refrigeration technology

The axial fans in SUNON’s Eco EC series are environmentally friendly and energy efficient, integrating advanced technology that allows them to reduce their power consumption by up to 80% compared to standard AC fans. Low noise generation, long service life and more make these fans an especially attractive choice.

Low power consumption

One of the primary advantages of the Eco EC fans is their low power consumption. This is achieved by converting alternating current to direct current using an integrated voltage transformer, allowing a DC drive motor to be used. This lowers power consumption by up to 80% compared to regular AC fans. For the classical 120x38mm model, power consumption is reduced to just 5.1W – with a 12% increase in air flow.

Environmentally friendly design

The fans also impress with their environmentally friendly design. Instead of the more traditional aluminium housing, the Eco EC fans are composed of a glass-fibre reinforced thermoplastic. As well as environmental benefits – mining and processing aluminium is extremely energy-consuming – in this case, plastic is also the better environmental choice: the fan housings are less expensive, which in turn helps compensate for the more elaborate motor construction. At the same time, the reduced weight makes installation easier and keeps vibration to a minimum.

Greater flexibility in design

In addition, the plastic – or more precisely, the glass-fibre reinforced thermoplastic – allows for considerably greater design freedom, as exemplified in particular by the CF2207 model: with a housing diameter of 250mm and an impeller diameter of 200mm, it weighs just 1100g, with no compromises to its aerodynamic design. Its size (250 x 77.4mm) allows for operating the fan at two preset speed levels: ideal for achieving optimum efficiency in applications when under full load and for energy-saving operation when under partial load.

Smaller sizes possible

The DC motors used in the Eco EC fans also allow for smaller sized fans compared to classical AC fans, and the technology can be utilised in fans as small as 60x25mm. This achieves the same efficiency and noise level as a classical AC fan measuring 80x25mm – and the 3.5W power consumption is only 25% of what the regular model would use. In this way, more compact equipment can be made or, alternatively, the power density in the equipment can be increased by the integration of the larger, more powerful fan types.

A good example of the 60x25mm size is the CF6025 model, already being used successfully in a wide range of cooling equipment for both private and commercial users. With the increasingly stringent requirements of energy-saving regulations, fans are becoming increasingly important. They run 24/7 and are also system-critical, for example by keeping a compressor within an optimum temperature window. Alongside efficiency, high reliability for such applications also plays an important role. With their compact dimensions and low noise, fans of this size are commonly used in mobile cool boxes.

The CF2207 fan has been designed with large food chillers in the retail sector in mind. Depending on the particular application, these can be operated at two fixed speeds: refrigerated counters remain open during shop hours, creating a high demand for chilled air, while cold air circulation is required at night when the counters are closed. By keeping the temperature constant, the fans ensure the safe storage of food and other perishable goods – even in continuous operation (see illustration). Heat dissipation also makes these fans an excellent choice for condenser units.

For both commercial and mobile cooling applications, SUNON’s Eco EC fans offer a further advantage: they can also be supplied with protection classes IP21 and IP55. This makes them ideal for harsh operating environments where, for example, they have to circulate air that is constantly humid or where condensation cannot be ruled out.
