The new non-isolated switching regulators in Recom’s R-78Kxx series have now been added to the Schukat range. These regulators from Recom represent a highly efficient replacement for 3-pole linear regulators in the TO-220 package. By eliminating heat sinks and their mounting requirements, the 3-pole switching regulators save energy, PCB space, and costs – and the lower weight means reduced transportation costs and CO2 emissions. At the same time, the DC/DC converters demonstrate significantly improved specifications, with a range of new versions available. In stock are 0.5A, 1A and 2A models with fixed outputs – 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, or 6.5V, depending on the type – in addition to the traditional outputs (3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V). Input voltage range has been increased to a maximum of 36V and peak efficiency to 96% across the entire range. Operating temperature for the series is up to 90°C without derating. Overall, with more output options and a wider input and operating temperature range, the R-78Kxx series is far more flexible, designed to meet the demands of modern end applications.
All regulators in the R-78K series integrate undervoltage shutdown and short-circuit protection with automatic recovery, and with a simple input filter meet EN 55032 Class B EMC specifications. They are also EN 62368-1 safety certified. The 0.5A and 1A rated versions come in a miniature SIP-3 package (11.5 x 7.5mm x 10.2mm high), while the 2A version has a footprint of 11.5 x 8.5mm and a height of 17.5mm, also in a SIP-3 arrangement. The regulators have a 3-year manufacturer's warranty.
